Development Map
An easy-to-use online tool which clearly identifies a child’s development and progress in an instant and visual way.
The Development Map allows children’s learning and progress to be viewed holistically so that everyone, including parents, can see the ‘whole child’ and understand the complex nature of their development and progress from birth to 6 yrs old. Created by Di Chilvers, Advisory Consultant in Early Childhood Education it is rooted in the observation of young children and how we understand and interpret their development and learning.
Di is a national expert in early childhood education, with over 40 years’ experience as a Nursery Nurse, Teacher, Senior Lecturer in FE and HE, Early Years Adviser, National Strategies Regional Adviser and now an independent consultant, researcher, writer and Early Education Associate.
The Development Map:-
- Is child centred
- Is collaborative, building positive relationships between the child, the family and the setting/school. Through the individual Development Maps, Home News Feed and My Interests it enables the child’s learning and progress to be easily shared.
- Creates observations in My Gallery and My Learning Stories which are shared with the children and parents.
- Includes My Interest’s where children can gather and show current ideas and fascinations, sharing them between home and setting/school.
- Uses knowledge of the child to make professionally informed decisions about development and progress not tick lists or statements.
- Using SEND Mode and This is Me to show Childrens finer steps of development and progress
- Including a bespoke Two-Year-Old Review – designed in partnership with our Development Map Partners
